President celebrates MIJ 10 year anniversary

World Autism Awareness Day was officially declared by United Nation General Assembly on 2 April, with the purpose of highlighting the need to help improve the lives of individuals with autism so that they are able to lead full and meaningful lives together with society. This declaration was done after the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities came into force on 3 May 2008, with the intention to protect the rights and dignity of individuals with disabilities. This significant day is now celebrated on every 2nd April, worldwide.

On 1st April 2021, we had the honour to celebrate World Autism Awareness Day as part of our 10 years anniversary/milestone together with Her Excellency, President Halimah Yaacob over at My Inspiring Journey (MIJ) @ Changi.

Mdm President also graced the official opening of the MIJ Hub’s new space expansion on Level 4 of Paradise@Pergas.

This additional 3,000 sq ft wing on Level 4 will house a learning space catering to our Adult students. Aside from normal classrooms, there are also a baking space, work stations for the various vocation which includes indoor farming, 3D printing and leather crafting.

All the furniture and equipment were made possible through the support we received from the public through the FUNDiture campaign as well as corporate partners like TOP International and Mok Lee Bakery Machinery.

We also hosted a sharing session with President Halimah about Special Needs in Singapore.

It will not be complete without a group shot, and that was the last highlight before Mdm President left.

It was indeed a meaningful event for MIJ Hub. With the support given by Mdm President, we hope that we can continue to raise awareness about the capabilities of people with Special Needs and how they deserve to also be contributing members of our society.
